Damn, not Uncle Phil!
Everyone grew up watching the 90’s comedic show “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” with star Will Smith. Although Will may have been the star, it was the actor that played his big Uncle Phil that everyone remembers the most.
Actor James Avery played the role of “Uncle Phil” throughout the show’s entire span from 1990-1996 and captivated so many lives. It is with sadness that we have to announce that Avery passed away New Years Eve at the age of 65.
Sources close to the actor tell TMZ he died in an L.A. hospital last night. Avery had recently undergone surgery for an undisclosed illness and took a turn for the worse late yesterday.
According to the site, his wife, Barbara, had been at his bedside but left for a short period of time to grab a bite to eat and when she returned, she learned of her husband’s death.
Several castmastes from the classic sitcom voiced their disbelief & sadness over the loss such as his onscreen children Alfonso Ribierio (Carlton) and Tatyana Ali (Ashley):
I’m deeply saddened to say that James Avery has passed away. He was a second father to me. I will miss him greatly. pic.twitter.com/UrW0EeBFbO
