When we heard that new Brooklyn rapper Bobby Shmurda was not only arrested and pinned in some huge gun-toting, drug-trafficking-murderous gang-banging mob and his bail alone was set at 2 mill, we all thought — it’s over for this kid! But it looks like the money gods shined down on the young rapper as, according to the New York Times, Shmurda has posted that $2million bail.
In court last week, his lawyer, Kenneth Montgomery, argued that the fee seemed “extremely unfair” and “excessive.” Though the judge did not budge on the original bail, the New York Times found out that Bobby Shmurda received help paying the costly amount from Ira Judelson, a bail bondsman that has helped previous rappers like Ja Rule and DMX.
With assistance from Judelson, Shmurda and his lawyer prepared a bail package for the city to review. “If the city is playing fair, there will be no need for a hearing,” Montgomery told the Times.
Shmurda has spent over six weeks in jail on charges including reckless endangerment, criminal possession of a weapon, conspiracy to commit murder in the second degree and criminally using drug paraphernalia.
He is currently being held at the Manhattan Detention Complex, known as the Tombs. Since his bail is paid, the pioneer of the “Shmoney Dance” could be released as early as today, February 2nd.
There will still be s a trial and if convicted, he will face up to 25 years in prison.
