Brooklyn 2, Boston 0!
Management of both the Brooklyn Nets and the Boston Celtics have agreed to a blockbuster trade Thursday evening that would send future Hall of Famers Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce to Brooklyn.
The trade come at a stiff price for the Nets, who will send Kris Humphries, Gerald Wallace, Tornike Shengelia, Reggie Evans, Keith Bogans and three first-round picks scattered over the next five years to Boston. Brooklyn also receives guard Jason Terry in addition to Garnett and Pierce.
A starting five of Garnett, Pierce, Deron Williams, Brook Lopez and Joe Johnson would be an unstoppable lineup in the Eastern Conference. It would be rookie coach (and former rival of Pierce & Garnett) Jason Kidd’s job to meld the stars into a team that could immediately challenge the two-time defending champion- the Miami Heat.
The trade ends one of the most successful eras in Celtics history and puts the franchise in full-blown rebuild mode. Not only does it allow the Celtics to clear cap space, it gives the franchise a handful of draft picks.
Boston fans & New York fans have been rivals since the NBA began it seems so I’m curious to see how MSG will react when Garnett & Pierce walk out to the court during game time. Feel the same? Comment below.
