On July 8th, Jay-Z is planning on turning the most populated location in the city, into an even more crowded area by holding a full concert at the top of the marquee of the Ed Sullivan Theatre.
The New York Post writes that although Jay is close to obtaining all the necessary legal documents & approvals from the Mayor for a July 8th performance after the “Late Night with David Letterman”. “If he gets permission from the mayor’s office, it’s going to be off the hook.. They’ll have to shut down Broadway around the Letterman building.. have to have a strong police presence. It’s going to be chaos with so many fans” said a law enforcement source.
Three years ago Jay tried to hold a concert similar to this one but was denied as the Mayor couldn’t afford to pay almost $500,000 in overtime wages for NYPD security. In 2010, Jay-Z and Eminem moved their concert to the theatre’s rooftop, where permits weren’t required to perform, after the city denied the request.
Jay wants this concert to take place and word is, everything looks promising. So everyone save the date.
July 8th, FREE Jay-Z concert in Times Square.
