The sentencing has been announced for Fat Joe’s tax evasion case. Fat Joe is facing four months in a federal prison, and was ordered to pay a $15,000 fine.
Back in December, Bronx raised Terror Squad rapper Fat Joe (legal name Joseph Cartagena) plead guilty to the charges of tax evasion & said that he would pay back whatever he owed. “At the end of the day, I’m paying all the money back that’s owed—actually I have and I’ma just go like a man, stand up,” he said during a May interview with MTV’s “RapFix Live”. “You gotta understand we hire guys who are supposed have Harvard degrees to take care of us.”
Federal prosecutors provided evidence to the courts that said Fat Joe failed to pay taxes on income earned from the years of 2007 through 2010 which also played a role in his final sentencing from the judge. Although Fat Joe remains free on $250,000 bail, he must report to the U.S. Bureau of Prisons August 26 to begin serving his sentence.
The Bronx, New York rapper apologized to his family, friends and fans before U.S. Magistrate Judge Cathy Waldor handed down the sentence. Joe has repeatedly said that he did not know he was not paying his taxes as that was his accountant’s responsibility to either handle it, or notify Joe so that he could handle it.
Once his sentence is complete, Fat Joe will still have to be on best behavior as he will have to face one year of supervised release.
Good luck to you Joey & keep your head up!
