Rihanna may only be 25 years old but in many eyes she’s shaped music and brought such a talent to the forefront that she is eligible to named an ‘icon’. RiRi has been named the first ever musical artist to receive the American Music Awards Icon award, and she will be honored for her career achievements at this year’s American Music Awards show – which will be aired later this month.
According to producer Larry Klein, the singer will be given the prize for her “influential” and “innovative” career.
“The first-ever Icon Award was created to honor an artist whose body of work has made a profound influence over pop music on a global level,” said Klein in a statement. “Rihanna’s iconic and innovative sound has enabled her to become one of the most influential and best-selling artists of all time.”
