“West was my slave name, Yeezus is my god name.”
Last night Kanye West held a Yeezus listening session in a loading dock at New York City’s Milk Studios. Jay-Z, Beyonce, Timbaland, Q-Tip and New York Knick Tyson Chandler were just a few of the stars in attendance to hear what might possibly be Kanye’s most outside-the-box album to date. In a brief introduction Kanye West addressed the gameplan (or lack thereof) behind the album saying, “I got a new strategy. It’s called no strategy. I have a plan to sell more music. It’s called ‘make better music.’” Kanye thanked Daft Punk for their role on several of the album’s cuts in addition to confirming Rick Rubin’s last-minute involvement in the album’s final stages. He also brought up the album’s controversial title, explaining “Simply put, West was my slave name and Yeezus is my God name.” And with that, Yeezus began, leaking samples from the likes of Billie Holiday and C-Murder and rumored features from Chief Keef, King Louie and Bon Iver. Yeezus will be available for purchase or download June 18.
