“I’m the lightskinned Keith Sweat.. Ima make it last forever..” – Drake “All Me (feat. 2 Chainz & Big Sean)”
“Out of all the R&B artists that have come out, I think my name has been used the most in Hip Hop songs,” Keith Sweat told Complex magazine. “It’s real flattering to know that someone who is on the top of their game will still acknowledge my music and what I’ve done. I’m a big fan of Hip Hop anyway. I’m most definitely a fan of [Drake]. He’s at the top of his game. You can’t be mad at him. His music is melodic as well as edgy.”
That’s what 90’s R&B crooner, & renowned panty dropper Keith Sweat had to say about Hip Hop’s most influential rapper, Drake. In his latest single “All Me”, Drake gives reference to Sweat & his long time success & how he wants to have the same. Keith Sweat acknowledges Drake’s name dropping because it’s keeping him relevant in today’s music world. Sweat said. “For him to say ‘I’m the light skinned Keith Sweat, I’ma make it last forever,’ that means I’m still relevant. He’s keeping me relevant.”
Usually most old school artists are bitter that new artists name drop or reference their music, so it’s refreshing to see Keith Sweat actually looking at this act as a boost for his own self. Keith admitted to meeting Drake once, and that he’d like to work with him in the future if the opportunity should present itself. “I only met him one time in New York,” Sweat said. “We crossed paths and he acknowledged me and I acknowledged him. I told him I was a big fan. Hopefully one day, him and I could do something. I could do a hook. I could do a cameo in the video. That would be hot.”
Drake is not one to shy away from working with those who helped influence his love for music so this could actually happen. And just like Keith Sweat said – that would be hot. Stay tuned..
