Close to two years after the release of her self-titled album, Ciara returns strong with a fabulous break-up track called “I Bet” (reportedly inspired from her breakup with rapper Future, ex-fiancee and father of their son, Future Zahir).
The slow-tempo song features Ciara standing up for herself, and telling off an ex-lover for not appreciating her & sneaking off to be with the fake booty chic with the bad weave. (SHADE!!)
“I bet you start loving me/ As soon as I start loving someone else/ Somebody better than you/ I bet you start needing me/ As soon as you see me with someone else/ Somebody other than you,” she sings on the hook. “And I know that it hurts/ You know that it hurts your pride/ But you thought the grass was greener on the other side.”
It’s hard to not quickly assume that she’s talking about her ex-fiancee Future as she passionately sings of betrayal & an exact time in their relationship when they took over Paris Fashion Week: “You acting like you upgraded me, but I upgraded you// You and me Fashion Week at Paris, I put you on to that new// You took advantage x3, I can’t understand it x3.” There were those reports that the couple split after Ciara called off their engagement when she found out Future had been unfaithful during her pregnancy.
Ciara has been quietly recording new music and taking care of her beautiful baby boy, Future Zahir Wilburn, born on May 19. When asked about her first single, Ciara had this to say:
“I imagine this song (‘I Bet’) will be very meaningful for a lot of people. It is much bigger than any one person’s experience.”
“I am truly fulfilled by this experience of making my new music (…) I was able to create everything I have aspired and hoped for as an artist. It is my favorite album I have made thus far in my career, and so excited begin my new journey. It is a new me. A new attitude.”
