Kehlani is back with a message for fans, after more than a month of silence after a reported suicide attempt, the Bay Area songstress delivers “24/7,” a new song that appears to delve into depression.
“It’s OK to not be OK,” she sings. “To dive in your pain / And it’s alright to not be alright / To search for your light.”
The DZL-produced song goes on to discuss the ups and downs of life. “I don’t know nobody who thinks that they’re somebody 24/7,” she sings as the song closes. “I don’t know nobody who smiles at everybody 24/7.”
In March, Kehlani was hospitalized after a reported suicide attempt. While the details remain unclear, the songstress had been nastily criticized online for appearing in a photo with PARTYNEXTDOOR just shortly after breaking up with Cleveland Cavalier’s Kyrie Irving.
Although her ex Kyrie Irving eventually denied that they were together when the photo was taken, some believed she was unfaithful to the basketball player with her former R&B star beau. Many trolls online accused Kehlani of being a “whore, or cheater.”
“today I wanted to leave this earth,” she captioned the photo of herself lying in a hospital bed with an IV in her arm. “Being completely selfish for once. Never thought I’d get to such a low point. But.. Don’t believe the blogs you read .. No one was cheated on and I’m not a bad person.”
Not that she owes ANYBODY any explanations, it’s nice to see her getting back to the music. Listen to Kehlani’s “24/7” below:
