“I can’t believe at 25 years old I’m holding an ICON award!”
Needless to say Rihanna had achieved great success in her music career since she first hit the scene back in 2003. Last night on the American Music Awards, Rihanna was honored as being the first recipient of the AMA Icon award. For those that doubted or questioned the award, let’s look at her track record:
Over the entire span of her career, Rihanna has sold over 50 million albums, 180 million digital tracks worldwide, won 6 Grammys, 11 Billboard Awards and is dominating social media with over 33 million Twitter followers and 10 million Instagram followers. “She is the voice of our generation,” says Bill Maher, who assisted in presenting the award alongside her mother.
The man who signed her — Roc Nation owner, Jay Z — also paid great respect for his protege, and pre-recorded a special video for RiRi that moved the singer. Her mom, Monica had the honor of presenting the award to Rihanna while praising her for a being strong, positive, humble woman and being able to take the good from all of her experiences.
