An individual known for assaulting New York City workers and possessing a history of violent behavior attacked a police officer by biting his ear, resulting in the officer needing 20 stitches. Surprisingly, this man, Donte Bynon, aged 32, was released without bail, as per authorities’ statements on Saturday.

Court documents indicate that Bynon, in a frenzied state, approached two NYPD officers who were entering a subway station at West 137th and Broadway in Harlem. He shouted obscenities and threats at the officers, exclaiming, “I’ll f— you up!” and “I am going to f— you up, you f—- b—-!”

Subsequently, Bynon walked toward a parked NYPD patrol car, prompting one of the officers to exit the vehicle in an attempt to calm him down, according to the records.

As the officers tried to apprehend Bynon, he bit the left ear of one of the officers, causing a laceration, bruising, and bleeding in the incident that occurred on Friday morning. The injured officer required 20 stitches to close the wound, as confirmed by the Manhattan District Attorney’s office under Alvin Bragg.

During a court appearance on Saturday, defense attorney Paul Lee stated that Bynon was on his way to his mother’s house, speaking to himself and acting under stress when he approached the officers. Lee expressed doubts about the accuracy of the events and mentioned that his client denies the allegations.

While prosecutors sought $35,000 cash bail, Judge Judy Kim granted Lee’s request for supervised release, allowing Bynon to be released with a scheduled return date in October.

Bynon has a prior criminal record that includes six arrests, with three of them involving violent offenses, as disclosed by a police source. His history includes a 2015 charge for resisting arrest, a 2016 incident in which he allegedly assaulted an MTA employee, and an altercation on April 27, during which he purportedly assaulted a police officer by tackling and striking the officer’s face multiple times.
