Renowned chef Daniel Humm, who made headlines by switching from honey lavender duck to an all-vegan menu, has successfully sold his Greenwich Village duplex penthouse for $17 million, as per city property records.

Humm, known for his work at Eleven Madison Park, one of the world’s top restaurants, had purchased the unit located at 40 Fifth Ave., at the intersection of 11th Street, in 2021 for $14.5 million, surpassing the asking price by half a million dollars.

His investment proved to be lucrative, as he made a substantial profit of $2.5 million in less than two years. The buyer of the property is billionaire Randy Lerner, as confirmed by property records.

Situated on the 14th and 15th floors of a neo-Georgian building dating back to 1929, the duplex penthouse offers four bedrooms, 4½ bathrooms, high ceilings, two woodburning fireplaces, and stunning city skyline views, including the iconic Empire State Building. Among its features are an open windowed chef’s kitchen, a living room with a fireplace, a dining room, a home office, and a guest bedroom on the entry-level floor. A beautiful open staircase leads to the bedrooms, as well as an additional living room and a playroom/den.

The residence showcases exquisite design details, including herringbone floors, radiant-heated bathroom floors, and a ceiling-mounted sound system with speakers. The sale was reportedly conducted off-market. The property has an interesting history, having been bought by Humm from Steve Ells, the founder of Chipotle, who acquired it from Ed Fancher, co-founder of the Village Voice, for $11 million in 2009.
