Tragedy As NYC Doctor Shoots Own Baby
A prominent New York City oncologist took her own life and that of her baby at their Westchester residence on Saturday morning, in what authorities believe to be a murder-suicide, as per reports.
The deceased, Dr. Krystal Cascetta, 40, a Hematology-Oncology specialist at Mount Sinai Hospital, reportedly died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound around 7 am after allegedly shooting her child, according to ABC 7.
State police issued a statement stating, ‘A preliminary investigation revealed that at approximately 7:00 a.m., Krystal Cascetta entered her child’s room and shot her baby and then turned the gun on herself. The scene is consistent with a murder/suicide.’
The tragic incident occurred at her home in Somers, a $1 million house she shared with her husband, 37-year-old Tim Talty, according to the Daily Mail.
The child’s exact age remains unclear, but social media posts suggest the baby was born around March.
Dr. Cascetta, known for her work in breast cancer research, graduated from Albany Medical College and received an award for her compassionate care of patients, according to her biography on the Mt. Sinai website. She also completed her residency at Hofstra North Shore LIJ School of Medicine at North Shore University Hospital, where she earned a similar award.
Dr. Cascetta’s expertise in breast cancer research was dedicated to Mount Sinai Hospital. However, the hospital declined to comment on the matter.
Krystal Cascetta and Tim Talty tied the knot in 2019 during a ceremony in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Tim is the owner of the protein bar company Talty Bars, which benefitted from Krystal’s medical and science background during product development.
Talty Bars’ website reflects Krystal’s passion for medicine from a young age, citing her desire to become a doctor, especially after her mother’s best friend’s death from breast cancer when she was in 8th grade. The website further highlights her role as an avid runner and fitness enthusiast, emphasizing the use of clean and tasty ingredients in their products.
