Bronx Shooting Victim Found Decomposing In Her Own Apartment

Authorities reported that a 45-year-old woman was discovered deceased with gunshot wounds in her Bronx apartment, her body in an advanced state of decomposition.

On Saturday around 3:50 p.m., law enforcement personnel arrived at Cindy Maxwell’s residence within the Parkside Houses on Arnow Ave. near Barker Ave. in Allerton, responding to a call received from a concerned downstairs neighbor who had become alarmed due to a foul odor emanating from the vicinity.

The neighbor, speaking anonymously, remarked, “It smelled like 200 dead rats upstairs.” He had detected the malodor upon exiting the elevator and decided to report it to the authorities, stating, “I had to locate that smell and I called it in.”

Upon entry, NYPD officers discovered Cindy Maxwell’s lifeless body positioned face-up in her apartment. She had suffered multiple gunshot wounds to her chest.

According to the downstairs neighbor, “She was lying there in the living room with gunshot wounds to her body. She was decomposing. Her body was swollen up.”

Residents of the complex reported hearing four gunshots on a prior Wednesday, but it seems that law enforcement had responded to a different building within the housing development, possibly due to the acoustics that distorted the sound.

Acting on his instinct, the neighbor decided to request a wellness check on the apartment. He expressed his frustration, stating, “Nobody ever came since the shooting. I was like, ‘I’m sick of this and it’s been smelling like this for two days.'”

Cindy Maxwell, identified as a home attendant, was remembered as a kind individual by her friend Marta Medina, who disclosed that Maxwell had two daughters, one approximately 11 years old and the other around 6 years old. The whereabouts of the children in the days leading up to the discovery of their mother’s body remain unclear.

Medina expressed her shock, recounting, “It really shocked me. She did me a favor last week. She gave me a can of spaghetti sauce … I don’t know of anyone who would do this to her.”

As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the homicide.

This shooting is the fourth homicide recorded within the 49th Precinct of the Bronx in the current year. In comparison, the precinct documented a total of nine homicides throughout the entirety of the preceding year, as indicated by NYPD statistics.
