Over 40 Migrant Arrests In A Single Hotel In Less Than 5 Months

Since the conversion of the Roosevelt Hotel into a migrant shelter in May, a minimum of 40 individuals have been apprehended at the premises, according to anonymous sources.

The majority of these reported offenses have been linked to incidents of domestic violence, law enforcement sources disclosed on Sunday.

This unsettling statistic came to light a day following the arrest of a 30-year-old migrant staying at the transformed Manhattan hotel, who was taken into custody for suspected child endangerment.

The apprehension took place shortly before 9 p.m. on Saturday at the hotel located at 45 E. 45th St.

Police sources have indicated that the alleged victim was the individual’s 11-year-old daughter.

Subsequently, it was reported that the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office opted not to pursue charges.

“In light of a comprehensive investigation and careful examination of the facts, the prosecution has chosen not to proceed with this case,” stated a representative from the Manhattan DA’s office. “When an offense cannot be sufficiently established beyond reasonable doubt, our moral obligation is to abstain from pressing charges.”

Among the other incidents at the site, an asylum seeker was apprehended in June for assaulting an employee by striking him with a “No Parking” sign. This occurred after the worker had ejected the individual from the building due to unruly behavior. The employee sustained a 6-inch laceration to the head. Mayor Eric Adams subsequently made an unannounced visit to the hotel to assess the situation.

Similar issues have emerged at various other migrant shelters. For instance, a 20-year-old migrant woman was arrested for allegedly slapping an NYPD officer who was attempting to confiscate her unregistered motorbike in front of the Stratford Arms Hotel on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. This woman had previously been apprehended in July for purportedly assaulting her boyfriend. She was subsequently released without bail in accordance with state law.

During the summer, the Roosevelt Hotel attracted attention when video footage depicted numerous migrants sleeping on cardboard on the sidewalk due to the overwhelming influx of asylum seekers in the city.

Local businesses have expressed concerns about the situation, with George Boahene, the manager of the men’s suit store Sayki, stating, “These migrants here, they are disturbing us a lot.” He added that migrants frequently linger around the store, scratching the windows and leaving them dirty, which has adversely impacted the business.

However, he claimed to be unaware of the alleged criminal activities occurring at the hotel.
