Migrant Gets Arrested For Slapping NYPD Officer In The Face
A migrant woman was taken into custody following an incident where she struck an NYPD officer who was in the process of seizing her unregistered motorbike near a Manhattan shelter for asylum-seekers earlier this current week.
The arrest took place amidst a situation captured on camera, where multiple individuals engaged in altercations with police officers during an effort to enforce regulations on scooters. This occurred on Thursday at the intersection of West 71st Street and Broadway on the Upper West Side, right next to the Stratford Arms Hotel, which is presently serving as a shelter for migrants, as reported by law enforcement.
A police officer can be heard in the video instructing the crowd to “Get back! Get back,” and subsequently guiding a young man away from the bike onto the sidewalk while cautioning him about the possibility of being arrested.
The woman in question, Baibaia Rodriguez, 20, faced charges of resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration, and harassment after allegedly striking an officer with her open hand at around 10:30 p.m., according to information provided by the police. Rodriguez had been previously arrested in July on charges of felony assault in relation to an attack on her boyfriend in a Bronx apartment. She was currently residing at the Stratford Arms, as disclosed by the police.
This incident and subsequent arrest were initially brought to public attention by West Side Rag.Some of the residents living near the Stratford Arms, led by Joe Germanotta, the father of popular singer Lady Gaga, have raised concerns with city officials about the new inhabitants of the area.
They allege that the residents have caused issues such as litter, drug-related problems, and disturbances in public spaces.Germanotta, 66, remarked on the situation, stating, “The most troublesome times are at night.
The noise begins around 10 o’clock and persists until 4 in the morning. There’s loud music playing and individuals racing their motocross bikes and motorbikes up and down the streets.” This statement was made to The Post in the previous month.
The scooter crackdown on Thursday transpired in response to “community complaints,” as stated by the police.During the crackdown, the NYPD confiscated four mopeds, one motorcycle, and one scooter, alongside nine bicycles that were allegedly illegally chained to a pole, as reported by West Side Rag.
