In a plea deal, a member of the notorious Rollin’ 60s Neighborhood Crips gang has admitted his involvement in a racketeering conspiracy. This announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger.

Tre Byrd, who also goes by the aliases “Bands” and “G Bandz” and is 22 years old, formally confessed to his culpability before U.S. District Judge Susan D. Wigenton on October 3, 2023. The indictment under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act implicated him in various criminal activities as part of the racketeering conspiracy.

Key insights gleaned from court documents and proceedings include:

  • From 2015 to September 22, 2022, Byrd actively participated as a member of the Rollin’ 60s Neighborhood Crips, a criminal syndicate known for its involvement in violent actions and the widespread distribution of illegal narcotics in the District of New Jersey and beyond.
  • In March 2019, Byrd collaborated with fellow gang members to target and eliminate a rival gang member. This individual was fatally wounded by gunfire on March 20, 2019, in Irvington, New Jersey. Additionally, on June 20, 2020, Byrd, along with at least one other gang member, was involved in an armed robbery in Newark.

Byrd now faces severe legal consequences, including the potential of a life sentence and a possible financial penalty of up to $250,000. The court has scheduled the sentencing hearing for February 7, 2024.

The extensive investigations leading to these charges against Rollin’ 60s Neighborhood Crips members drew upon the combined resources of various federal, state, and local agencies. These entities included the DEA, IRS – Criminal Investigation, ATF, U.S. Marshals Service, as well as various local police departments and prosecutor’s offices throughout New Jersey.

Furthermore, this case falls within the framework of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) initiative. The OCDETF program focuses on identifying, disrupting, and dismantling high-level criminal groups that pose a threat to national security. Additional information regarding the OCDETF’s efforts can be found on the Justice Department’s OCDETF Program website.
