Women seeking a safe and nurturing environment to raise their children and achieve personal growth might find the decision of selecting the right city challenging. A recent study has shed light on this issue by evaluating various U.S. cities for their suitability for women to thrive and reach their potential.

The study scrutinized 182 cities, including 150 well-known ones, rating each based on criteria influencing a woman’s life quality. Key aspects considered were poverty levels, employment stability, safety, suicide rates, and healthcare accessibility.

Columbia, Maryland emerged as the top-ranking city, standing out for offering the highest median income for female workers relative to living costs. This city leads the list of the best U.S. cities for women, which also includes:

  1. Columbia, MD
  2. South Burlington, VT
  3. Gilbert, AZ
  4. Overland Park, KS
  5. Yonkers, NY
  6. Pearl City, HI
  7. Irvine, CA
  8. Seattle, WA
  9. Fremont, CA
  10. Santa Clarita, CA

The study also highlights the persistent wage gap between men and women, suggesting that women’s financial progress could be bolstered by relocating to cities with more favorable job prospects.

Conversely, Jackson, Mississippi was ranked as the least suitable city, partly due to its high female unemployment rate. The lowest-ranking U.S. cities for women, according to this study, are:

  1. Jackson, MS
  2. Gulfport, MS
  3. Shreveport, LA
  4. Huntington, WV
  5. Laredo, TX
  6. Augusta, GA
  7. Charleston, WV
  8. Brownsville, TX
  9. Mobile, AL
  10. New Orleans, LA

This research provides valuable insights for women considering relocation for better opportunities and a higher quality of life.
