Man In Wheelchair Attacks Helpful Local On NYC Subway

According to the NYPD, a well-intentioned individual who tried to stop a subway crime ended up getting more than he bargained for when he became a victim himself. The incident occurred in Manhattan when a passenger in a wheelchair, whom the individual was trying to assist, struck him in the head with a wooden cane.

The NYPD recently made public surveillance footage depicting the disabled suspect involved in the attack, which took place on a southbound Q train at the Prince Street subway station in Lower Manhattan on June 17.

At approximately 1 a.m., a 22-year-old commuter noticed a man in a wheelchair who was asleep while holding his phone. The commuter woke him up in an effort to prevent him from becoming a target of a crime, as stated by the police.

Unfortunately, the person in the wheelchair, who was initially believed to be a potential crime victim, reacted by brandishing a cane and hitting the well-intentioned individual in the neck and head. This assault resulted in a minor laceration.

The police released a brief surveillance video on Monday, which captures the suspect wearing a checkered shirt while seated in his wheelchair on the Prince Street subway platform.

After the attack, the perpetrator swiftly fled the scene using his motorized wheelchair.

The injured subway rider was taken to hospital, where he received treatment and has no life threatening injuries.

This does however raise the question of whether you should ever try and initiate contact with anyone on the NYC subway. It is already known for being a unsociable and dangerous place. Even trying to innocently help someone can go badly wrong.
