Earlier this year, a woman from New York City, Catherine Sanoja, was charged with theft at a local Ulta Beauty store, as she is believed to be a serial shoplifter according to the police.

On July 10, Sanoja, 20 years old, was charged with organized retail theft, second-degree larceny, and conspiracy to commit second-degree larceny.

The arrest of Sanoja followed a police investigation into a shoplifting incident that occurred on February 14 at the Ulta Beauty store located at 1365 Post Road East. Over the past few years, this store has been a frequent target for thieves.

After store employees reported the shoplifting incident and provided descriptions of the suspect and the white Hyundai getaway car, a patrolling officer spotted the vehicle. However, the officer was unable to apprehend the car before it escaped the town using Interstate 95.

By reviewing surveillance footage from the store and sharing information with other law enforcement agencies, investigators were able to identify Sanoja as the shoplifting suspect.

A warrant for Sanoja’s arrest was issued, and she was apprehended by Westport police detectives on July 10 at the Westchester County Correctional Center in New York, where she was already in custody.

Sanoja was brought to the Police Department headquarters, formally charged, and held on a $50,000 bond. She was unable to post bail and was arraigned the following day at the state Superior Court in Stamford.
