A grand and luxurious Manhattan mansion, formerly owned by the late banking mogul David Rockefeller and his wife Peggy Rockefeller, is now up for sale.

Located on East 65th Street, this opulent residence is on the market for $57.5 million, offering decadent living both inside and out.

Doug Band, longtime political adviser to Bill Clinton, and his wife, Lily Band, are selling the property. They purchased the 100-year-old, 40-foot-wide mansion in 2018 for $20 million, a significant discount from its initial asking price.

After four years of renovations, the Bands have transformed the home, including excavating below to raise the garden-level roof, resulting in higher ceilings. The five-story Colonial Revival spans approximately 12,500 square feet and boasts an additional 3,500 square feet of outdoor space with front and backyards.

Among its exquisite features are eight bedrooms, a yellow wallpapered drawing room, a living room adorned with original knotted wood paneling, a stylish mirrored dining room, three kitchens (one for family and two for service, connected by a dumbwaiter), a sports court, sports simulator, a 220-inch movie screen, sauna, and a skylit spiral staircase.

Notable additions include a modernized high-speed elevator that serves all five floors, state-of-the-art A/V, mechanical, and HVAC systems, as well as two dedicated staff rooms, each with a full bathroom.

While the property may seem expensive, it did sell for over $70 million less than a decade ago. So those with $50 million to spend may be able to snap up a bargain.
