MTA Worker Caught Red Handed Flying To Florida While “Working”

MTA officials made an announcement on Monday regarding the termination of a transit employee who was caught flying to his home in Florida during work hours. The individual in question was a general superintendent responsible for overseeing elevator and escalator inspection, maintenance, and repairs from Manhattan’s 14th Street up to the Bronx within the New York City Transit.

The investigation revealed that the superintendent had been improperly paid for the time he spent traveling from New York to Florida. While time-keeping records showed that he claimed to be engaged in “fieldwork,” travel records demonstrated that he was actually on board an airplane heading to Florida.

Moreover, it was discovered that on certain occasions, the employee would neglect to swipe his ID at the time clock at the end of his shift. Instead, he would falsely report his time out for the day directly to his supervisor, leading to unaccounted time for which he was paid.

The investigation covered the period from January 2021 to June 2022, during which officials compared the time records with the worker’s airline records. Numerous instances were found where the general superintendent could not have worked his entire scheduled shift based on the departure and arrival times of his flights.

Due to these findings and following an appeal through the managerial disciplinary process, the general superintendent was terminated from his position at New York City Transit. MTA Inspector General Daniel G. Cort emphasized the crucial role managers play in maintaining elevators and escalators, stressing that such responsibilities cannot be neglected, and dishonesty will be held accountable.
