MS-13 Gang Member “Pinky” On Trial For Ordering Hit On NYC Boy

Melvi Amador-Rios, also known as “Pinky,” is accused of being a leader in the violent MS-13 gang. Federal prosecutors claim that under his leadership of the Centrales Locos Salvatruchas, a faction within MS-13, he ordered the murder of a 16-year-old boy named Julio Vasquez in a New York City park. The attack was described as extremely brutal, almost decapitating the teenage victim.

Throughout his time as the gang’s boss, Amador-Rios allegedly orchestrated the murders of at least four individuals, with Vasquez being the only successful killing. He now faces trial in Brooklyn federal court for Vasquez’s murder and various other violent crimes that were reportedly carried out under his command in the Jamaica neighborhood of Queens, New York.

In May 2017, Amador-Rios allegedly instructed two lower-level gang members known as “chequeos” to entice Vasquez, a fellow member of the gang, to Alley Pond Park. Suspecting that Vasquez might be cooperating with law enforcement, the hitmen, Josue Leiva and Luis Rivas, brutally stabbed and hacked Vasquez over 30 times, resulting in his near-decapitation.

Prior to this incident, Amador-Rios was said to have ordered another member of his Centrales Locos gang to kill a rival member of the 18th Street gang in Jamaica in 2016. During that attack, three Centrales Locos members assaulted the 16-year-old rival, beating and shooting him in the head, leaving him severely injured and paralyzed. The trio later pleaded guilty to federal charges related to the assault.

If convicted, Amador-Rios faces a mandatory life sentence in prison. The trial is expected to last approximately two weeks, and the jury will remain anonymous for security reasons.
