Authorities intervened to rescue a wallaby from an unusual situation when officers spotted a young man strolling along the Coney Island Boardwalk on a Saturday evening while carrying the creature, as reported by the police.

The furry marsupial was discovered comfortably nestled inside a soft bag at the renowned Brooklyn beach destination at approximately 5:10 p.m., as informed by law enforcement officials. The wallaby’s rescue operation unfolded during the Saturday evening. The creature was subsequently taken to the Animal Care Centers of NYC.

Upon receiving a 911 call about a man seen holding a wallaby, officers initiated a search to locate the animal.

The individual, a 22-year-old man, was found to be carrying the wallaby and was issued a citation for possessing a wild animal, according to the police.

Being a member of the kangaroo family, the wallaby was escorted by the officers and transported to the Animal Care Centers of New York City.

Interestingly, this rescue operation occurred only a few days after a separate incident in which a man was observed in Washington Square Park walking around with a creature resembling a wallaby. A man was also seen with a wallaby the previous week. It remains uncertain if it involved the same individual and animal.

The city’s health code dictates that possessing wild animals like wallabies is restricted for residents of NYC, unless they are being housed in a veterinary setting, zoo, aquarium, laboratory, or a similar type of animal exhibit.
