Xuanzhi Liu never possessed a valid Canadian driver’s license, which contradicts the information she provided to the Department of Motor Vehicles (DVM).

According to law enforcement, Liu, a Brooklyn resident, completed New York State DMV Form MV-44 on February 18, 2021, over two and a half years ago, and submitted it to the Department of Motor Vehicles on Hempstead Turnpike in Bethpage. In this document, there is a specific question: “Did you ever have a driver’s license that is currently valid or has expired within the last two years issued by a Canadian Province?” It is alleged that Liu, 45 years old, inaccurately marked the YES box, falsely indicating that she possessed such a license.

But that’s not where her actions ended, as per the police.

After supposedly misrepresenting her possession of a valid Canadian license, Liu is accused of presenting a counterfeit Ontario driver’s license to the DMV as evidence.

Near the signature line of Form MV-44, there is a warning: “I understand that making a false statement on this application may be punishable as a criminal offense.”

According to the police’s account, at this juncture, Liu had submitted a fraudulent “Application for Driver License” to New York authorities, seeking to transfer what was claimed to be an existing Ontario driver’s license with the number L3600-13437-50228 for a New York State Driver License. A Nassau County Detective made this assertion in a sworn court document.

Making false statements on DMV paperwork constitutes a criminal offense. Submitting a counterfeit Canadian license in an attempt to bolster the chances of success is another criminal act. Merely possessing these fraudulent documents is, in itself, a felony.

She came close to evading detection, but yesterday, after a period of 2 years, 7 months, and 3 days, Xuanzhi Liu was apprehended by the Nassau County Police and charged with three (3) felony offenses:

  1. Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument under Penal Law 170.25
  2. Falsifying Business Records to commit a crime under Penal Law 175.10
  3. Filing a False Instrument with the intent to defraud under Penal Law 175.35-01

Liu entered a plea of Not Guilty.

Judge Marie McCormack released Liu but mandated that she regularly report to the court’s Probation Department until her upcoming court appearance. Liu’s next court date is scheduled before Judge Anthony Paradiso in Mineola on Friday, September 29, 2023.
