Man Calls Fire Department To Neighbours Apartment – Only To Discover It Was An Image On Their TV

The well-known New York City mantra, “better safe than sorry,” has long been promoted by local authorities. Recently, a TikTok user exemplified this by promptly reporting a massive blaze he witnessed inside an apartment building several structures away. He dialed 911, leading to the swift arrival of fire trucks prepared to extinguish the fire. However, the outcome of this incident proved to be quite unexpected.

Beginning his story, he exclaimed, “Something unbelievable just occurred. I spotted a fire in a building and immediately dialed 911,” as he shared footage of an imposing flame within an apartment on the opposite street corner. Within minutes, two substantial fire trucks arrived, sirens blaring. He went on to describe the surprising turn of events when the firefighters arrived.

“It turns out, it was merely an eight-foot TV displaying a Yule log,” he disclosed. “I rushed down to show them what I had seen, and their response was, ‘Yeah, buddy, it was a Yule log. What were you thinking?'”

Projecting a crackling fireplace on a television screen is a rather common practice. It often imparts a sense of warmth—both figuratively and, to some extent, even physically due to the placebo effect—to a space, especially during the chilly winter months. Although it may not replicate the experience of a real working fireplace with a chimney, for many people, including numerous New Yorkers, it’s the closest they’ll ever come.

Given the potential danger of apartment fires occurring when occupants are absent, the TikTok user’s decision to alert the firefighters upon seeing significant flames was likely the right course of action. Nevertheless, with the approach of winter, similar mix-ups could conceivably occur again as individuals seek to create a cozy atmosphere in their homes using digital simulations of warmth.
