Alleged acting Bonanno mob boss Michael “The Nose” Mancuso is set to return to prison for 11 months, in part due to a recorded conversation with a reputed fellow mobster discussing the preparation of pasta “gravy.”

Mancuso, aged 68, had been released in 2019 after serving a ten-year sentence for involvement in a murder plot. However, he was found to be in violation of his release provisions by engaging in prohibited contact with other convicted felons. Prosecutors revealed that he used his girlfriend’s eyeglass shop in Long Island as a meeting place to gather with other members of the mafia and frequently dined with them at restaurants.

During a wiretapped call on October 24, 2020, Mancuso asked reputed Colombo soldier Michael Urvino about making pasta gravy, seemingly a harmless conversation. Nevertheless, since Urvino had prior convictions related to racketeering, illegal gambling, and conspiracy, this seemingly innocent exchange was considered a breach of the terms of Mancuso’s release.

Despite claims of innocence from Mancuso’s lawyer, the judge ruled that he must serve an additional 11 months in prison for his prohibited interactions with other alleged members of La Cosa Nostra. He had used his girlfriend’s eyeglass shop, Real Eyes Optical, as a cover for these meet-ups, where discussions of possible Mafia business were reportedly overheard during phone calls.

Mancuso’s prison term is scheduled to begin on September 6th.
