Woman In Critical Condition After Being Struck By Hit & Run Cyclist

On Friday, in Murray Hill, a 69-year-old woman sustained critical injuries in a hit-and-run incident involving an e-biker traveling in the wrong direction within a designated bike lane.

According to the police report, the incident occurred at 7:37 a.m. on September 15th when the woman was attempting to cross the avenue at the intersection of 38th Street and Second Avenue. At that moment, she was struck by the cyclist, who was traveling northbound within the bike lane, contrary to the one-way, southbound flow of traffic on the avenue.

As of Sunday at approximately 4:30 p.m., the victim remained in critical condition. While a local doorman mentioned a potential connection between the victim and the United Nations, this information could not be verified, and the police did not provide any additional details regarding the woman.

In an effort to apprehend the cyclist responsible for the hit-and-run, the police have set up an electronic signboard in the bike lane at the incident location. On Sunday afternoon, cyclists were observed passing by the sign, with roughly half of them riding high-speed electric bikes, while the others were on traditional pedal-powered bicycles.

Traffic levels in the Murray Hill area have been notably higher due to the impending commencement of the U.N. General Assembly on Monday, September 18th.
