Car Thief Manages To Call NYPD On Himself & Gets Caught Red Handed

According to federal prosecutors, a thoughtless criminal stole a luxury car belonging to a Queens couple during a violent home invasion robbery in Flushing, Queens, on July 16. The suspect, Rustambek Zokirov, 24, falsely claimed to be an FBI agent to target the victims. Alongside an accomplice, they subjected the couple to a horrifying ordeal involving tying them up, blindfolding them, and threatening them at gunpoint. The criminals also used a Taser on the victims during this harrowing incident.

During the robbery, Zokirov and his partner stole various valuable items, including credit cards, designer handbags, luxury jewelry, a cell phone, keys to the Mercedes-Benz owned by the victims, and approximately $30,000 in cryptocurrency. To facilitate their escape, they set a 15-minute timer, slightly loosened the restraints on the victims, and instructed them to wait before freeing themselves. The victims later contacted the NYPD to report the crime at around 11 p.m.

Following the robbery, Zokirov fled in the stolen Mercedes-Benz, initially avoiding capture. However, on July 19, the stolen car was discovered in a Manhattan parking garage and was subsequently seized by the police.

In a bizarre twist, Zokirov himself called the police to report the stolen vehicle missing. He even presented his actual driver’s license to the parking attendant while attempting to retrieve the car on the following day. Unfortunately for him, the vehicle had already been seized by the authorities.

Rather than escaping the situation, Zokirov’s call to the police led to his arrest when they arrived at the scene. Prosecutors have requested that he be held without bail due to his perceived extreme danger. Both Zokirov and his alleged accomplice, Cheng Wei Huang, 24, face charges of robbery and impersonating federal agents.
